Northampton County Courthouse Northampton County was founded on March 6, 1752. The first court proceedings were held in taverns. The first court house was built in 1765 in Centre Square, then known as "the Great Square." The current courthouse, located on Seventh and Walnut Streets, was designed by Architect G. The Spanish American War Memorial was dedicated in Easton on Wednesday, June 24, 1914. Harry Lewis Raul was the designer and sculptor of the monument. The memorial is in memory of the "Martyrs Of The Maine" and the United States Soldiers, Sailors and Marines of the Spanish American War. It was erected under the auspices of the County of Northampton and Col. Charles A. Wykoff Camp No.43 - United Spanish War Veterans of Easton, PA. The projectile on top of the monument is from the Battleship Maine that was destroyed in Havana, Cuba's harbor on February 15, 1898. The dedication and unveiling of the monument was held in conjunction with the Spanish-American War Veterans' Convention that was held in Easton on June 22, 23, and 24,1914. at the Karldon Hotel.
